She then read the full statement that is the following:

“MHUCC is an open and affirming Christian community, embracing the dignity and worth of every person.  We are committed to peace, justice and reaching out in healing to all of creation.  We respect and value the diversity of people’s race, ethnicity age, physical or mental ability, socioeconomic condition, marital status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation and spiritual background.  Every person is a child of God whom we are called to love and serve.  Jesus does not turn anyone away, so neither do we.
We welcome and invite all to share in ministry, fellowship and worship.”

Nancy Menning moved that we should vote on the proposed statement.  Nance McCreary 2nd the motion.  All agreed with the motion.

Christian Education: Melissa Waskiewicz / Steve Pavich
Lanny discussed 3 possible Advent studies for the Advent season.  With some discussion, it was determined to use the topic “Angels among us today.”  The Advent study will be on Wednesdays at 6:30 for a light meal and the study.  This event will start on Wednesday, November 29.

Missions & Outreach:
Open and Affirming Congregation –
Melissa, Chloe and Nancy M. drafted a few mission statements for the council to review.  These statements were reviewed by the council at the meeting.  It was decided to bring forward to the congregation the following statement:

“MHUCC is an open and affirming Christian community, embracing the dignity and worth of every person.  We are committed to peace, justice and reaching out in healing to all of creation.  We respect and value the diversity of people’s race, ethnicity age, physical or mental ability, socioeconomic condition, marital status, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation and spiritual background.  Every person is a child of God whom we are called to love and serve.  Jesus does not turn anyone away, so neither do we.  We welcome and invite all to share in ministry, fellowship and worship.”

Men’s Ministry – There is no update.
The Fountain of Coins for the through November is Mobile Meals.  The council picked a new mission for December – February to be the Robert Lewis House in Eagan.  The Robert Lewis House is a home for battered women and their children.  This decision is pending Pastor Lanny visiting them to be sure they are okay with the collection.  Nancy Menning will arrange the meeting.
Jenny arranged a Feed My Starving Children event for Saturday, December 2 for a 2:00 – 4:00 for a group from MHUCC.

Pastor’s Report:
Lanny started by saying that:
We need an identity.
We need a mission.
We need to determine a target audience that matches our mission.

Last month we read a paper on the new UCC Minnesota Conference program called 2020 Vision Focuses on Church Renewal and Vitality.  This program fir the vision is called Crossroads and will be led by Jim LaDoux.  Jim met with Lanny and a few others from the church.  Jim LaDoux will work with (coach) a “cluster” of churches (up to 6) to help churches break down the process to grow.  The idea is to make small plans and “do” them.  This program will also help MHUCC build a leadership team and foundation to grow.  This will cost the church about $1400.  The Minnesota Conference is covering the rest, which is about $5000.  Melissa moved that MHUCC participate in the Crossroads program.  Chris 2nd the motion.  All agreed.

Old Business:
The lights have been fixed in the sanctuary.  A “fuse” (or something like that) was blown due to the dimmer switches not being totally turned off fully.
This caused some of the lights to be out again.
The sound system is mostly working with the exception of the lectern microphone.  This will be worked on in the future.
Rich Rivers donated a mic stand to the church, which is greatly appreciated.

New Business:
Christmas Eve is on a Sunday.  It was decided that there will be Sunday morning worship at 9:30 and the Christmas Eve service at 4:00 pm.

The next council meeting is scheduled for December 10 after church.

Melissa moved to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon.
